Victory Garden Kids Tutoring Staff


Jennifer Payne, Co-Founder and Lead Tutor

Jennifer and her husband, Jeff, co-founded Victory Garden Kids after they wrote a business plan while on their honeymoon 25 years ago that would help children and their parents 

work together academically for the benefit and growth of world-changing children. Jennifer is a 20-year veteran classroom teacher, homeschool teacher, and private tutor. 

Her mission with VGK is to help children feel confident and valued as learners so that when they are in their classrooms, they can hold their heads high and feel the confidence to try! 


Rebecca Buys: Chemistry

Rebecca Buys graduated from Dordt College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education and Biology, with a field of specialization in English, and a coaching endorsement. 

She taught in middle school and high school classrooms in California and then Arizona until the fall of 2016 when she and her husband welcomed their son.

Rebecca now lives in Washington where stays home with her son and she is so excited to be a part of Victory Garden Kids! 


Hannah Payne: English/Acting/Singing

Hannah is a senior at UCLA, majoring in English Literature and minoring in Theater. Hannah has a passion for teaching and, after graduation, will join Teach for America as an elementary teacher. 

Hannah has been acting and modeling since she was nine years-old and can be seen in the Netflix series, 13 Reasons Why, in the series, How I Met Your Mother, and on Larry King Now as a socialmedia expert. 


Alexandra Dove: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Chemistry, Civics

A recent graduate from UCLA, Alexandra studied Anthropology and Evolutionary Medicine while in school. She enjoys teaching and learning all subjects, in particular, math, chemistry and biology as well as Spanish. Born and raised in Berkeley, CA, Alexandra has always enjoyed the outdoors and plans to move back to the Bay Area before applying to medical school.

She has worked and lived in Yosemite for a number of summers and has lead various teen leadership programs near the park. In her spare time you can find Alexandra traveling the world, cooking with her mom or playing outside with her black labrador, Lucy. 


Sandra Estrada: Spanish

Sandra is a UCLA graduate that majored in Spanish. She is pursuing her Masters and single subject teaching credential to ultimately become a high school Spanish teacher. Her love for the language has followed her since she was very young. As a native speaker, she enjoyed the perks that the Spanish language offers, especially in a city like Los Angeles. She wants to invoke that same love and passion for the language in all of her students. 


Eliana Purcell: Pre-Calculus/Calculus

Ellie has always had an interest in math, and is currently a math major at William Jessup University. She has been a math tutor for two years. She works at the students' pace and does her best to help them understand the concepts as thoroughly as possible. She encourages the students to have confidence in what they know and to do their best. Her main priority is that the student learns and has fun while doing it!
